From July 9 to 10 this year Brussels hosted the international conference on young people’s health ‘Be healthy, be yourself’ organised by the European Commission and the European Youth Forum. The conference was attended by more than 200 participants from all over Europe representing the leading health and communication organisations. Upon the organisers’ request the employees of the public relations agency A.W.Olsen & Partners represented Latvia’s communication sector at this conference. In cooperation with policy-makers and health organisations the conference helped to address the major challenges in the health sector and a variety of trans-disciplinary issues, including the financial crisis, inequality in the health sector, education and the role of mass media.
The conference was opened by Androulla Vassiliou, EU Health Commissioner. Key note speakers at the conference included H.R.H Princess Laurentien of the Netherlands, France`s High representative for Youth Martin Hirsch, World Health Organisation`s deputy regional director for Europe Nata Menabde and President of the European Youth Forum Tine Radinja.
A.W.Olsen & Partners’ representatives at the conference were Olga Kazaka, Partner, and Anna Špoļanska, Project Assistant.
“Participation at such a significant conference enabled us to find out what the major trends in communicating health issues in Europe were. Promotion of health and a healthy lifestyle entails application of very sophisticated communication tools, especially when addressing young people, therefore we highly appreciate that it was among the key topics at this conference,” points out Olga Kazaka, Partner at A.W.Olsen & Partners.
