Extensive Charity Campaign ‘Butterfly Effect’ Launched

April 1, 2008 – magicians Jelena and Genadijs Palcevski announced the pan-Latvian charity campaign to help children from children`s homes to find their place in the society after coming of age and leaving their foster care institutions.

In the months to come, the magicians Palcevski will organise a tour of free concerts in all Latvia’s children’s homes. In turn, the photographer Maris Kiselovs will contribute to the campaign by taking pictures of children to create a charity photo album. In partnership with the charity foundation ‘Spārni’ (‘Wings’), a dedicated bank account and hotline for donations will be opened for the purposes of this campaign. The raised money will cover the expenses of psychologists and career advisers, who will help children from children`s homes to discover their professional calling and adapt in the society. Besides, the campaign blog efekts.blogspot.com features a list of material needs of children’s homes, which reflects the results of the survey conducted by the PR agency A.W.Olsen & Partners. The organisers hope that the availability of such information will enable benefactors to offer children`s homes the help they really need.

`The survey revealed that in more than 60% of cases children at children’s homes did not have enough entertainment opportunities. We are ready to perform in all children’s homes all over Latvia to help each and every child to believe in miracles and the good of life. Another principal problem, which was specified by all representatives of children`s homes, was that these children lacked the necessary skills to integrate into adult life – they often find it difficult to find their own place in the society after leaving their foster institution. With this campaign, we wish to raise awareness of this problem and to acquire funding for tackling this challenge,` say Jelena and Genadijs Palcevski.   ‘

When I learned about this charity concert, I decided to create a photo album, which, I hope, will help the society understand that children at children`s homes can also feel joy and optimism. To achieve this, we need to find the right key forged of undivided attention, sincere attitude and care,’ points out the photographer Maris Kiselevs, adding that the names of those benefactors, who have donated Ls 20 or more to this campaign, will be published in the photo album.

Philosophy behind the campaign ‘Butterfly Effect’

Edward Lawrence, an American meteorologist and mathematician, created the Chaos Theory, which includes the concept of `Butterfly Effect` – even the smallest changes in the system may cause tremendous changes elsewhere. This idea inspired us to implement a project, which shows that every inhabitant of Latvia can participate in children`s homes` activities. Even the smallest investment can bring us closer to fulfilling ambitious aims therefore we are convinced that big things start small. According to the philosophy of this project, everyone can join anytime!
